Erectile Dysfunction is on the Rise...

Want to rock her on bed and feeling Erectile Dysfunction (ED).It is a problem that many men prefer not to talk about. However, study shows a problem of ED is surely on the rise.

Erectile Dysfunction is the persistent inability to attain or maintain a sufficient erection for satisfactory sexual activity. While many may view the condition as an age-related one mainly affecting older men, the truth is that ED affects men from the adolescent stage, right up to, and after, middle age. However, it is more common in men aged 40 and over and men who are approaching and ropause.

ED, however, is more common than one thinks, with more than an estimated 100 million men worldwide dealing with the condition. Another myth is that ED is a natural part of growing old.

Although there is a higher incidence of erectile dysfunction among older men because of age-related conditions, including vascular disease, diabetes and certain medications, it also occurs in younger males and should not be considered a natural part of the ageing process.

Lawson Douglas- Urologist Professor- says there are four main causes. "The causes are psychogenic (in the mind) first of all, something is upsetting the man; second, he can have a vascular problem (blood not being able to reach the penis); third, a nerve problem (can be caused by surgery); and fourth, hormonal problems (they give you the feeling to have sex, but are not essential in producing an erection, but they can cause a man not to feel like having sex)," Professor Douglas explained. There are also some other factors that can lead to ED like obesity, diabetes and smoking.

Nowadays, the diagnosis of ED involves simpler techniques such as a sexual history, and a medical one. Only standard physical examinations are needed. Laboratory tests on blood, urine and blood pressure can identify the underlying medical causes of ED.

Taking phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5), which are oral erectile-dysfunction medicines such as Viagra, Cialis or Levitra, can help solve the problem. The drug is used to block the degradative action of phosphodiesterase type 5 that causes a man to lose his erection.

Professor Douglas also stressed that before taking any of these drugs, a man should always consult his physician.
