Lybrel works same way as other combination birth control pills work by preventing ovulation from occuring. The difference is that it will supply a steady low dose of ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel to be taken 365 days of the year without a pill-free interval or placebo period. Lybrel will prevent menstruation as long as the pill is taken daily.
Before Taking Lybrel
The risks of using Lybrel are similar to the risks of other conventional oral contraceptives so before taking Lybrel consider these things:
- Like other oral contraceptives, Lybrel does not protect against transmission of HIV (AIDS) and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as chlamydia, genital herpes, genital warts, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, and syphilis.
- Because Lybrel users will eliminate their regular periods, it may be difficult for women to recognize if they have become pregnant. Women should take a pregnancy test if they believe they may be pregnant.
- Women should also discuss contraceptive use, and the precautions and warnings for use of the drug product, with their doctors or other health care professional.
DosageIn order to get the best possible results, take Lybrel once a day.
Side Effects of Lybrel
This product is intended to prevent pregnancy,
thus most side effects of the pill are not serious. The most
common such effects are nausea, vomiting, unscheduled bleeding,
weight gain, breast tenderness, and difficulty wearing contact
lenses. These side effects, especially nausea and vomiting,
may subside within the first three months of use. But there
are some women who are at high risk of developing certain
serious diseases or some serious side effects that include:
- An increased risk of blood clots, heart attacks, and strokes.
- The risks increased if you smoke, have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, or a tendency to form blood clots, or are obese.
- Liver tumors or cancer may occur, which may burst and cause severe bleeding, but the chance of developing liver cancer from using the pill is thus even rarer.
Thus if you experience these side effects or any unusual physical disturbance while taking pill then consult your doctor as soon as possible.
Precautions:
Women who use birth control pills will experience
irregular and unpredictable bleeding or spotting. But such
bleeding or spotting will occur during the initial three to
six months of the use. Thus, it is advised that before commencing
the treatment, the easiness of regular menstrual period must
be weighted over the distress of unplanned breakthrough bleeding
and spotting.
In addition, during the usage of Lybrel, a regular monthly menstrual period is almost unlikely to occur, thus an unanticipated pregnancy eventually may be hard to identify. If you think that you may be pregnant or have been witnessing pregnancy symptoms like nausea, vomiting and unusual breast tenderness, contact your doctor and do have a pregnancy test in order to avoid any likelihood. You should not take the pill if you suspect you are pregnant or have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
While using Lybrel, can pregnancy occur?
If you utilize Lybrel everyday as directed by your physician then you are not prone to get pregnant. But on the other hand, as regular monthly bleeding does not occur on Lybrel it thus may be difficult to recognize you get pregnant. So, if you suspect any symptoms of pregnancy then consult your doctors and stop taking Lybrel if you are pregnant.
